The History of Agha Bozorg Mosque
Agha Bozorg Mosque in Kashan was built between the late 18th and mid-19th century during the reign of the Qajar dynasty, and it was very much a homage to Haj Mohammad Taqi Khanban. The master architect Ustad Haj Sa’ban-ali began its construction around 1832 and finished it in 1850, as corroborated by inscriptions and historical documentation. Mullah Mahdi Naraqi II, one of the leading scholars of the time, was the mosque’s first preacher and teacher; therefore, it was named after him the ‘Great one’ or Agha Bozorg.
