El-Goli Park, also known as Shah Goli Park, is a popular recreational and cultural complex located in the city of Tabriz in Iran. The park is a natural oasis amid a bustling city and attracts locals and tourists alike with its beautiful lake, gardens, and historical monuments.

History

El-Goli Park was created during the Aq Qoyunlu dynasty and expanded during the Safavid era (1501-1736) when it was built as a royal summer palace known as Shah Goli. The palace was constructed by Shah Tahmasb and was used as a hunting lodge and a summer retreat for the Safavid rulers.

After the fall of the Safavid dynasty, the palace was abandoned, and the complex fell into disrepair. It was not until the Qajar era (1785-1925) that the palace was restored and turned into a public park. The park was opened to the public in the early 20th century and has since become one of the most popular recreational and cultural complexes in Iran.

Location and layout

El-Goli Park is located in the southeastern part of Tabriz, about 8 kilometers from the city center. The park covers an area of approximately 50 hectares and is surrounded by tall trees and gardens. The centerpiece of the park is a large artificial lake, which is fed by natural springs and is home to a variety of fish and water birds.

The park is divided into several sections, each with its unique attractions. The main entrance to the park leads to a large square, which is surrounded by shops, cafes, and restaurants. From there, visitors can walk along the paths that lead to the lake and the various pavilions and monuments in the park.

Attractions

El-Goli Park’s crown jewel is the stunning El-Goli Pavilion . This magnificent two-story octagonal building stands at the center of the picturesque El-Goli Lake, surrounded by lush greenery and offering visitors a truly captivating sight. The palace was reconstructed in 1967 by the Tabriz Municipality, replacing the old and worn-out one-story adobe structure.
